With this project, I wanted to portray the sensual aspects of the book. Süskind is a descriptive writer, inspiring a detailed sense of 18th century France throughout his storytelling. I didn't want to change or take away from the reader's discovery of this world, and so thought carefully about what illustration could do to add to the book.
As Grenouille experiences the world mainly through scent, I wanted to surround the reader with colour and texture; a visual representation of smell and emotion. By building a world of colour and scent, I hoped to bring to life Grenouille's story. |
